Injabulo – word meaning happiness in Swahili.

When I worked in the film industry, I was so lucky being able to travel the world and meet the most wonderful people This range started off as a I remembered my time on The Ghost and The Darkness, a huge movie based on a real story starring Val Kilmer and Michael Douglas

We filmed in the Songimvelo Game Reserve in Mpumalanga South Africa. That in itself was the most amazing experience, but added to that on our days off we would visit places like the Ndebele Village and Swaziland (now known as Eswatini). Immersing ourselves in the culture, the people, the art work and the fabrics I was in seventh heaven.

But my overriding memory is happiness – happiness of spending time with the locals. My team was made up principally of locals from Elukwatini and Badplaas, and boy did we have some fun times. They became family. Every morning I would drive round the villages and collect them all in my converted camper van and then we would spend the day creating costumes for the thousands of crowd extras featured in the film. The sound of laughter and merry chatter filled my days, learning about each other’s lives and culture

I was there for months and months and saw my ladies through floods, losing their homes to the elements, opening bank accounts for them and even child birth. There are two young people running round the villages both called John Scott in honour of me…..and one is a girl!

The colours and the prints of this my latest collect take me straight back to those happy times and I’m thrilled to share it with you.
